PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to practice a minimum of four days a week, but it is preferable to practice five to seven days a week for excellent progress. Practice times can be from 10 minutes a day to 45 minutes a day, depending on the level of the student. If a student does not abide by these recommendations and is not progressing, I may recommend to search for a different piano instructor.
CANCELLATIONS, VACATIONS AND HOLIDAYS.
Like all private education, it is the clients responsibility to attend every scheduled class.
- No credit is given for missed classes. Make up classes are possible if there is an opening in the teachers schedule. Makeup classes must be completed in six months or less.
- Please do not bring sick students or family members into the piano studio. If your child is sick or another circumstance keeps them from their class, please give me as much notice as possible so I can offer the timeslot to others trying to make up lessons.
- Other options to makeup classes are swapping lessons with another student or Zoom or FaceTime lessons. Online lessons have worked really well when a student is sick. Swapping lessons has worked really well for temporary extra committments or vacations etc…
Another option for missing a lesson is to send a video of the student practicing their music along with any written homework and I will review everything and get back to the student with my feedback, suggested new materail and recommendations.
- Snow days. If school is cancelled because of a snow day, I will still have piano lessons as typically the streets are plowed by the afternoon. If that is not the case and the storm continues into the afternoon, Online classes are an option if driving does not seem safe to you.
- Missing classes for vacations or other events requires at least a month notice to offer swap opportunities to other families. Credit for vacation is not available. Swap lessons, Zoom and FaceTime lessons are options to makeup this time.
- When the teacher misses a lesson for any reason, Client can make up the lesson during flex weeks offered two weeks during the year. (One week per semester)
- Lessons will not be given on the last week of February. That is my flex week for makeup lessons for when I have to miss a class, Memorial Day week, one week early June, the week of July 4th, Labor Day week will be a flex week to make up lessons for when I have to miss class, Thanksgiving week and the week of Christmas and the week of New Years.. Each semester, I will take three weeks off for vacation, (which includes three of the weeks listed above), during the March through August semester and September through February. During each semester, I will also schedule a “Flex Week” that provides makeup opportunities for any time that I have to miss lessons due to be sick or other conflicts. Typicall my flex week will be scheduled at the end of the semesters.
